Lumen: privacy
Updated 9 October 2026.
Lumen is an app from Iron Roots Supply (ironroots.us): Torch Runners, the Bookshelf and Watch, at lumen.ironroots.us. Watch, the video tab, has its own privacy and terms, which it shows the first time you open it and keeps under its Settings.
Your sign-in
You sign in with your Iron Roots account: your email, and a password kept by Supabase, the account service Iron Roots uses. Lumen never stores your password. Signing in and out goes to Supabase. Your sign-in is then kept on this device; with Save login on it is also kept in a cookie for 30 days that Iron Roots' own sites share, so ironroots.us and Lumen open signed in.
What stays on this device
Your place in every story and book, what you have finished, your settings, the recordings you download and the audiobooks you add yourself. Lumen sends none of that to Iron Roots. Account and settings has Export progress and Clear listening progress; clearing this site's data in your browser removes all of it.
What leaves it
Torch Runners' stories, pictures and recordings come from Lumen's own server, so it sees which ones your device asks for, as any website does. The Bookshelf's Go deeper books are LibriVox recordings that play from the Internet Archive (archive.org), and their covers load from the Internet Archive and Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org); those sites see your IP address and what you open there, under their own policies. A link to another site opens it only when you tap it. Lumen shows no ads of its own; a video in Watch can carry the ads of the site it comes from, as Watch's terms say.
What Cloudflare sees
Lumen has no counter and no tracking code, and Iron Roots puts none on its sites, so the only visit numbers we get are Cloudflare's. Cloudflare runs the server Lumen answers from, so it sees every request: your IP address, the address asked for and your browser. From that it shows us totals, robots included: requests, visitors (each IP address counts as one) and the countries they come from. Its security view also lets us look at a sample of single requests from the last 31 days, each with its IP address, address and browser.
Cloudflare adds one small thing of its own. A note in each answer asks your browser, for 7 days after each visit, to tell Cloudflare when a request to Lumen fails: the address it tried, what went wrong and how long it took, the page that sent it, and your browser. Nothing is reported while requests succeed. Chrome, Edge, Opera and Samsung Internet send these reports; Safari and Firefox do not. Cloudflare says it uses your IP address only to find your network and rough location, and drops it as soon as the report is handled; what it shows us is the kind of failure, when it happened, and the network and country it came from.
